Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is a method of freezing which uses liquid nitrogen (temperature of -196 degree Celsius).
It can be used for a number of different skin conditions, such as viral wart, molluscum contagiosum and seborrhoeic keratosis.
Your dermatologist or nurse will spray liquid nitrogen onto the area of skin requiring treatment.
You may experience some discomfort, as the temperature of your skin can drop to -50 degree Celsius.
Your reaction to the procedure depends on the length of time of freezing.
our skin will become red and may form a blister. The area may also become weepy. Please be assured that these reactions are normal.
If blisters form, release the fluid by pricking with a needle, sterilised in a flame, and keep repeating this process until the blister dries. Do not remove the roof of the blister.
Once the area has stopped weeping, a black scab will form. The scab may take about 1 to 2 weeks to drop off, leaving a pink-coloured area underneath.
If you experience any discomfort in the area, you can take a painkiller such as paracetamol. Do not exceed the stated dose.
